10 Habits of Successful Business Owners

There is no secret formula or hidden shortcut that will instantly make your business a successful, multimillion dollar franchise overnight (or even ever). What matters are the habits you practice while building this kingdom for yourself.

Creating positive, beneficial habits is vital to your success. Studies show that more than 40% of the actions that we perform each day are habits, rather than decisions. As we continue to perform these habits each day, they become stronger and stronger. It is important that we develop healthy habits that will benefit us, especially as business owners!

Changing a negative habit to a positive habit may feel impossible, but it’s not too hard to do. There are three main stages of a habit: cue, routine, and reward. By identifying the cue that triggers your habit, you can change the routine and reward!

Below we have 10 healthy and easy habits that you can start forming today to create a better business for tomorrow!

10 Habits of Successful Business Owners

Have a morning routine

Getting up early, eating breakfast, and having those few minutes to yourself make all the difference in having a successful day. By starting your day with a morning routine, it brings balance to the rest of your day. This might even start a chain reaction in having a routine all day long.

We wrote an entire blog post about the importance of having a morning routine with a few helpful tips to add to it, too!

Don’t Procrastinate

Sometimes we just have to bite the bullet and get the tough stuff done first. It might be the scariest box on our checklist, but it needs to get done. By not procrastinating, you unlock the secret of having easier days by doing the hard labor now and not later. Successful business owners know to put the most gruesome task at the top of their agenda to allow the rest of their day to roll on smoothly.

Prioritize

Prioritizing can be a struggle since there are so many facets in one’s life. Learning how to prioritize each list inside of each section will help make your life go on swimmingly. Another way of thinking about how to prioritize things is to put yourself and your needs first before anything else gets done. Lay and perfect the foundation now so when a storm comes, it’ll still be sturdy later.

Positive Thinking

Think about all the nasty things and words you think on a daily basis. Now think about if you were to write them all down on paper - would you like what you see? Each time that you have a negative thought, try replacing it with a positive, uplifting one instead. If you wouldn’t talk to your BFF the way you talk to yourself - then don’t say those things. This also goes for the negative people you have in your life or might be following on social media. If you find yourself getting upset with every post from a person or their comments in your stuff, put that unfollow/block button to good use! It’s there for a reason - utilize it.

Ask For Help

Humbling yourself down to ask for help can be a struggle in itself. However, there is no shame to be had if you have to ask for help in any kind of way. With your friends in the community you have built around you, everyone is more than willing to listen and do what they can in order to see you achieve your goals. Asking questions about processes or new features you are unaware of helps not only you, but it enhances others’ understanding of something by explaining it out loud or by writing it out. It’s honestly a win-win for everyone!

Be Kind

In today’s society it unfortunately comes very seldom that we are faced with overwhelming amounts of kindness. The saying goes, “Be a light in this world.” And that’s what we all should strive to be! When you see everyone else throwing hate and hurtful words towards other, be one to not participate in the negativity, but bring joy and kind words. Be kind to your sisters in the same niche as you and also never forget to be kind to yourself. You get what you put out in the world!

Don’t Let Outside Opinions Lessen Yours

When you receive negative or unhelpful feedback from others about you or your business, try not to take it personal. If they are unhappy about a service or you in general, that’s their prerogative and should be disregarded. Now, if it is useful criticism for you, use it to your advantage! Use that to help better your business. But never think that because someone has a different opinion as you that you are wrong in thinking yours. Everyone has opinions, but only you have the control as to how you respond to them.

Stay Organized

From being a Marie Kondo type A or a chaotic, organized mess type B - we all have our different styles in keeping our stuff in order. For most, it is helpful when our desks are free from clutter or other things that will keep us distracted from our work. For some, it doesn’t matter what’s on your desk as long as you are getting stuff done! Whatever organization looks like to you, make sure you know how your stuff is filed and sorted all the while keeping track of the important tasks.

Love Lists

You are going to have to learn how to love lists. They don’t have to be long or typed out on an Excel spreadsheet, but they need to make sense to you. Start by putting the toughest to-dos first, while adding everything else that can come later. Seeing the proof in the pudding of what needs to get done makes you see that you have more to do today than just making sure you respond back to your emails. And hey, we’re human so we forget things from time to time! Keeping a well-documented list will help remind you of the things that are now far from your memory.

Keep Moving

As any boss babe might tell you, nothing good comes easy. That’s why we always have to work hard and always keep on our grind. Give yourself rest when you need it, but never forget that getting what you want means you have to continuously work for it. It may not happen overnight, it may not happen even next year - but if you keep working on your empire, you will be so proud of your future successes.

Here’s to a happy, successful 2020!
Xx,
Maddie
