Staying Healthy as a Boss Babe

Did you make the switch from your 9-5 to full time blogging? Or did you start your own business from home? Yasss girl! This is an excellent feeling and a great moment - all of a sudden you're able to enjoy true financial freedom and passive income and you'll never have to make a busy commute into work at 7am again!

But at the same time, blogging full time also comes with a few drawbacks. One problem bloggers and biz owners face is staying healthy in their new work environment. When you blog full time, you'll be spending most of your day sitting in front of the computer at home and staring at a screen. This has consequences - so read on to find out how to avoid the most severe of those!

Your Work Environment

A big problem for bloggers is that their work environment happens to be the same as their chilling out environment. You can't LinkedIn and hustle in the same place that you Netflix and chill. For some people this can mean never leaving the house - which is a surefire way to get poor sleep and cabin fever! It also means you're probably taking very few steps.

Getting a fitness tracker can help motivate you and keep you on track. This Fitbit will track your activity, which you can check on your phone throughout the day. You can set reminders so you don't end up going too long without moving around.

The Apple Watch is another great way to track your daily activity (and it serves tons of other great purposes for a boss babe!). The Apple Watch encourages you to stand up at least once every hour, so you will feel a tap on your wrist when you have been sitting for too long.

As tempting as it is, avoid working from your bed. Try to have a workspace that is dedicated only to work - it will help get you in the “work” mindset. And at the same time, consider working somewhere other than your home. You can get fresh air, social interaction and great beverages if you work in a coffee shop instead! Another good option is to work in a public library.

Exercise and Stretch

Sitting is incredibly bad for you. Not only does it mean your heart is at a complete rest, which can cause it to atrophy, but it also means that you'll be in the same position for long periods of time, shortening your quadriceps, loosening your hamstrings and hunching over. Back ache and poor mobility are almost guaranteed if you aren't careful.

The best solution for these problems is to exercise and stretch daily. Ideally, do this just after you wake up. That way you'll be able to freshen yourself up for the day and enjoy feeling more focused for the remaining hours. It will also help create a routine and habit.

Check out Groupon to find some good deals on local workout classes. Bring some friends and have fun while getting some exercise after work or on the weekends!

It is also important get up and walk around during your work sessions. Take ten minute breaks and use them to get some movement and some fresh air!

A huge benefit of working from home is that you can wear whatever you want. But be careful not to get into a habit of wearing sweatpants and a t-shirt all day! Wearing athleisure (leggings, sweater, etc.) will help you feel better and less lazy, and may even motivate you to take a break to work out.

Eating Healthy

At a typical office job, you’ll get a lunch break. When you are working from home, you have constant access to the fridge and to Uber eats. Avoid snacking throughout the day and try to set aside a lunch break as you would at an office.

Another problem some work-from-homers have is forgetting to eat altogether. Once you’re in the zone, it is easy to forget about everything else! Set a timer or a reminder on your phone if this is a problem for you.

Stress Management

There are several ways to combat stress while working from home. Essential oils and candles can be very helpful! I suggest investing in an oil diffuser and finding some essential oils that you enjoy. Hello Essentials has a great article about the must-have oils and what they help with. Learn more about the essential oils here.

Coco Chantel Candles makes natural soy wax candles that are eco-friendly and cruelty-free. The candles are infused with essential oils - great to have in your workspace! Chantel has an incredible holiday collection right now, be sure to check them out before they're gone!

Finally, make sure you are managing your work/life balance. As a blogger you are always working and never working. You don’t have set “work hours” so be sure to schedule in some leisure time for yourself. Be disciplined to maintain a separation between your working hours and your resting hours!
