CBD: What It Is & Why We Use It (Feat. Pretty Janes)

Being Vegas locals, we’re no strangers to cannabis. But we’re also entrepreneurs in our early twenties who are aware of how weed affects our bodies and our minds. While we love a Friday night in with a box of pizza, F.R.I.E.N.D.S. reruns, and a joint (or 2 or 3), we know that neither of us are productive stoners and we avoid it during workdays at all costs.

Maddie and I (Katie) are both prone to anxiety and overwhelm, which is probably why we’re drawn to the lovely plant in the first place. So to keep our nerves down during workdays, we found a different solution: CBD!

CBD, also known as Cannabidiol, is the second most active ingredient in cannabis. The most active ingredient is THC, which is the psychoactive compound that gets you high. Cannabis compounds interact with the body’s endocannabinoid system (ECS), which controls many vital functions, such as our immune system, sleep pattern, mood, pain sensation, memory, and appetite. THC binds with our brains’ cannabinoid 1 receptors, giving us that high feeling, while CBD’s bind is very weak.

It’s important to note that CBD is legal everywhere, while THC is only legal in certain states. More than half of the states have legalized medical marijuana, but only a handful have legalized recreational use. But because CBD has no psychoactive effect, it’s legal everywhere! And as cannabis is becoming legal in more and more states, more research is being done on the plant.

CBD is completely safe and it has tons of positive effects.

CBD for Anxiety

CBD is a natural remedy for anxiety. More and more studies are proving the powerful calming effects that CBD provides. And with nearly one in three adults in the US suffering from an anxiety disorder at some point in their lives, CBD is a great alternative to prescription drugs.

CBD for Sleep

Quality sleep is essential to overall health and wellness, but nearly 80% of Americans say they struggle to fall and/or stay asleep at least once a week. Our endocannabinoid systems play a part in regulating sleep styles and according to ProjectCBD, “An insomnia study indicated that the administration of 160 mgs of CBD decreased nighttime sleep interruptions and increased total sleep time, suggesting that high-dose CBD therapy can improve the quality and duration of sleep.” If you struggle sleeping, you may want to try some CBD before bed!

CBD for Skin

Your endocannabinoid system has receptors in the skin, so CBD actually has many positive effects on your skin and hair! There are topical CBD products that have been known to heal skin conditions such as inflammation, psoriasis, eczema, and hives. CBD has both soothing and anti-inflammatory functions, making it a great solution for both existing skin conditions as well as a preventative measure.

With the rise in popularity of CBD, tons of cool CBD products are coming out, such as drops, gummies, chocolates, lotions, vapes, balms, etc. I even have CBD treats for my dog! While CBD has been proven to have tons of beneficial functions, it’s important that you’re consuming high-quality products. That’s why we highly recommend The Pretty Janes.
