How to Create a Successful Morning Routine in 5 Steps
Waking up late and rushing out the door is no way to start your day. Not only does this begin your day on a stressful note, but it cuts down on the time in your day that you have to yourself. Morning routines allow you to start your day on your own terms, focusing on the things that are important to you and working toward your personal goals — whatever they may be.
There’s a reason why so many successful people have their own morning routines. In fact, research has shown that there are multiple benefits to establishing a morning routine, including improved and better quality sleep as well as less stress.
To give you a few ideas on how to make your own morning routine (and stick to it), we’ve rounded up five ideas below.
How to Create a Successful Morning Routine in 5 Steps
1. Make Your Bed
This may seem silly, but making your bed first thing in the morning means that you’re crossing one thing off your to-do list. This little “win” can serve as inspiration to keep on tackling your to-dos for the day. Plus, it’ll prevent you from crawling back into bed for a few more minutes of sleep!
2. Let the Sunshine In
Blackout curtains can be great when you’re trying to sleep, but they won’t help you wake up. Instead, open your curtains and blinds when you wake up to let the sunshine in. This will alert your brain that it’s time to wake for the day and also boost your serotonin levels, which can help start your day on a positive note.
3. Try a Cold Shower
There’s a reason why many successful people start their days off with a dip in a cold pool or ocean. That’s because cold water can be just the shock you need to fully wake up and get your brain working for the day. Plus, cold water can be great for your hair and skin, as well.
4. Set Your Outfit Out the Night Before
Cutting down on the number of decisions you need to make the night before, can truly help you focus on the important aspects of your morning such as preparing a healthy breakfast, getting in some movement or accomplishing your goals. So make your life a little easier by setting out your outfit the night before or even preparing your lunch. Your future self will thank you.
5. Skip the Morning Coffee
Opting for water instead of coffee when you first wake up will help to rehydrate you after hours of sleep. Oftentimes, we feel lethargic or drowsy because we’re dehydrated. Opt for a glass of water instead of coffee in the morning, or at the very least drink a full glass of water before you make your coffee.
