#GIRLCRUSH - Kasey Boone

Tell us about yourself and your business!

Hi my name is Kasey Boone I am 29 years old, I’m an esthetician/owner of Glow Skincare for almost 8 years! I have a great skincare studio offering facials, peels, hydrodermabrasion, lashes, waxing, henna and spray tans. I was a dancer inspired to be a make-up artist turned esthetician, who always loved everything beauty. Now skin and Glow are my True Passion.

What inspired you to start your own business?

I was inspired by my father to start my own business, ever since I can remember I knew one day that I wanted my own business. I saw my Dad (and Mom) run a very successful business and I was always inspired as well as encouraged to follow my dreams. Also, after the shocking death of my boyfriend when I was 21 years old, inspired me to take action on my dreams because you just never know what can happen and I was going to live my life to the fullest and follow my dreams of owning a spa

Is this your full time job?

Yes!

How do you structure your days?

I make sure to take time for myself in the morning and get a work out in before I head into Glow. I typically see clients Tuesday-Saturday with varying hours, I typically work from 10-5 but I also work late on Wednesdays for clients who work late and I almost always work Saturdays as that is normally one of my busiest days. Evenings and Sundays are time for myself and my husband and Monday is my run errands and prep for my up coming week!

Where and how do you work best?

I work best in my office, alone with some Bosa Nova playing in the background, lots of coffee is a plus

Are you currently running any promos/contests/giveaways that you would like our readers to know about?

I run different promos each month at Glow. Right now I'm offering a $39 Custom facial that you can book with my newest esthetician Karly and I would love to offer all readers 25% off all facial services including peels and hydrodermabrasion!

Where is your business based?

Toluca Lake, CA

What were the first few steps you took to get your business up and running?

Write down a game plan, find a space, and contract anyone and everyone who might want a facial with me. Open a business checking account and make sure I got a DBA and Business license.

What has been the most effective way of raising awareness of your business and attracting new customers?

Yelp, social media, Google and referrals

What have been your biggest challenges so far?

I have had lots of challenges, from my lease not being renewed, to having to move locations and at one point managing 13 women, and sometimes money being TIGHT! But its always worth it in the end.

How did you overcome these challenges?

By taking action, thinking and making logical decisions, always believing in myself and standing up for me and my business even when I was underestimated.

How do you keep motivated through tough times?

I remember what is was like before I started Glow and how unhappy I was working for other people who didn’t appreciate me or my work ethic.

How do you distinguish yourself from your competitors?

I'm just myself. I have 11 years of knowledge and experience…… I KNOW I give a great facial and with time can give your skin beautiful results!! I keep Glow fresh and clean at all times and im always learning and educating myself on the newest and latest skincare technology.

What is the best advice you have received recently?

To be true to yourself but its also okay to imitate someone you admire, there is enough room for everyone!

What do you wish you had known when you started your business?

That its okay to make mistakes because that is how you learn and GROW yourself and your business.

Who are your biggest influences? Who do you admire most? Who or what inspired you to do what you’re doing now?

I’m OBSESSED with Lauryn Evarts - her hustle is real and inspires me every day! I admire Lorena, one of my girls at Glow that started with me over 5 years ago and now has 2 successful businesses. My best friend Gretchen is an amazing graphic artist and has done all my graphics and website and at the end of the day I always go back to my Dad, he has had his business for over 30 years and still continues to hustle and grow its truly inspiring.

What advice would you give to other entrepreneurs?

Go with your gut, you are going to have to bust your ass but it is so worth it!! It's going to be scary and sometimes you will wonder why or how, but when you go home at night knowing this is yours is an amazing feeling and accomplishment. It's okay to fail and it's okay to ask for help.

What business tools/resources could you not work without?

Booker.com (online booking), squarespace, mailchimp, instagram. Technology in general is just pretty amazing!

What surprising lessons have you learned along the way?

Some people will assume things about you and the biz and it doesn't matter as long as you know what you have accomplished. That I have failed and I'll probably fail again but you just pick yourself back up and always keep pushing forward!

Where would you like your business to be 5 years from now?

I would love to have my own skincare line. I'd love to have more estheticians working for me. I'd love to be known all over the US for giving amazing, quality facials that everyone can afford not just the Kim Kardashians of the world! Even though Kim is welcome anytime! lol
